Nigeria’s political landscape has been rocked by fresh controversy as opposition figures demand the removal of President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linked to a purported fake government agency.

The calls follow the ongoing case involving Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of operating the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) from an office within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.

According to investigators, Adeyemi allegedly used forged documents and fake appointment letters to present himself as the head of the non-existent agency, hosting diplomats and facilitating official engagements before his arrest in October 2025 on fraud and forgery charges.

During court proceedings, Adeyemi alleged that he paid ₦600 million in bribes to Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to secure backing for his activities. The Presidency has firmly denied the accusation, describing Adeyemi as a serial fraudster attempting to deflect attention from the criminal charges against him. Officials insist neither the President nor the Chief of Staff had any involvement with the alleged scheme.

The controversy has intensified after reports that the 2026 federal budget contains a ₦1.3 billion allocation linked to the PFIPC, despite the Presidency maintaining that the council has no legal existence. The apparent discrepancy has prompted renewed questions over budget oversight and government accountability.

Opposition parties and critics have seized on the development, calling for an independent investigation into the allegations and demanding that Gbajabiamila step aside while the matter is examined. Some have also requested a broader probe into the reported death of an alleged intermediary connected to the case.

The Presidency has maintained that the allegations remain unproven and has urged the public to allow the judicial process to take its course as investigations continue.
