VANITI Lagos 3rd anniversary celebrations begin tonight, September 25, as the Lagos nightlife venue marks three years with a two-weekend programme featuring some of Nigeria’s well-known music stars.
Patoranking will headline the opening night, with Duncan Mighty scheduled to perform on Saturday, September 26, and Mr P, formerly of P-Square, taking the stage on Sunday, September 27.
But the celebration is not stopping after this weekend. VANITI has planned a second round of activities from October 2 to 4, turning its anniversary into a longer entertainment run.
Why VANITI Is Making the Anniversary Bigger
Three years is a relatively short period in Lagos’ highly competitive nightlife industry, where clubs and lounges have to continually attract audiences through music, atmosphere and events.
Rather than putting all the attention on one anniversary night, VANITI is spreading its programme across two weekends. The approach gives the venue more opportunities to bring in different audiences while keeping the anniversary in the city’s entertainment calendar for longer.
The venue has built its profile around live performances and appearances from established Nigerian entertainers, making music a central part of its anniversary strategy.
A Lineup That Crosses Different Eras
The first weekend also brings together artists with noticeably different musical backgrounds. Patoranking will open the celebration on September 25. His music blends dancehall, reggae and Afrobeats, making him a natural fit for a nightlife setting.
Duncan Mighty follows on September 26. The Port Harcourt-born singer is known for combining highlife and Afrobeats influences, with songs such as Port Harcourt Son and Obianuju remaining part of his catalogue.
Mr P closes the first weekend on September 27. Having first gained widespread recognition as part of P-Square, Peter Okoye has continued his career as a solo artist.
The result is a lineup that connects different periods of Nigerian popular music rather than focusing on one sound or generation.
The Celebration Continues in October
The VANITI Lagos anniversary celebration will return from October 2 to 4 for its second round.
Details of the performers for that weekend have not been fully announced, meaning the October programme could provide another reason for Lagos nightlife audiences to return after the opening weekend.
For VANITI, the anniversary is ultimately a chance to mark three years in one of Africa’s busiest nightlife markets while using live music to keep the venue at the centre of the weekend entertainment circuit.
The first round begins tonight with Patoranking, followed by Duncan Mighty and Mr P across the weekend, before the anniversary continues into October.
