The latest Nigerian Afrobeats streaming numbers are showing something more interesting than a simple ranking of who has the most streams: different platforms are telling different stories about Nigeria’s biggest music stars.
Burna Boy leads the latest Spotify comparison, with nine songs reportedly crossing 300 million streams across all credits. Tems follows with five, while CKay has three. Wizkid, Rema and Ayra Starr have two each.
But on Pandora in the United States, Wizkid Pandora streams put him firmly at the top, with 521 million streams. Rema follows with 296 million, Tems has 282 million and Burna Boy has 260 million.
That difference raises an important question: who is really winning the global Afrobeats streaming race?
Spotify and Pandora Tell Different Stories
The figures show why comparing artists using only one streaming platform can be misleading. Spotify has become a major driver of Afrobeats’ international growth. Spotify itself said in February that the number of Nigerian artists on its platform had grown 158% since 2021, while Afrobeats had grown by more than 5,000% over the same period.
The platform also says more than half of all Spotify streams in 2026 are coming from outside an artist’s home country, highlighting how important international listeners have become.
Pandora, meanwhile, has historically had a particularly strong presence in the United States. That could help explain why Wizkid Pandora streams remain so strong even when other platforms produce different rankings.
Burna Boy’s Catalogue Is Doing Heavy Lifting
Burna Boy’s Spotify performance points to the strength of a large catalogue that continues attracting listeners years after release.
His international reach has also received a boost this year. Spotify reported that his collaboration with Shakira, “Dai Dai”, became the most-streamed official song connected to the 2026 global football tournament, passing 138 million streams.
That matters because modern Afrobeats success is increasingly about catalogue value, collaborations and songs that keep finding new listeners.
The Bigger Winner May Be Afrobeats
The most important takeaway from the most streamed Nigerian artists debate is that Nigerian music no longer depends on one platform or one superstar.
Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Davido, Ayra Starr and others are building audiences across different markets and services. Spotify’s own data shows just how far that expansion has gone, with Afrobeats becoming one of the fastest-growing genres outside its home countries.
So while fans will continue arguing over who is number one, the bigger victory is clear. Afrobeats global streaming is becoming too large to measure with a single chart.
