Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan showed remarkable resilience at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, fighting through a knee injury to claim the bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.
The reigning world record holder and two-time defending Commonwealth champion finished third in 12.60 seconds, extending her impressive medal streak at the Games after winning gold in Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022.
The gold medal was won by Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas in 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds claimed silver in 12.41 seconds. Amusan clipped a hurdle during the race but still managed to secure a place on the podium.
After the race, the Nigerian star revealed she had been competing through pain after suffering a bad fall during Team Nigeria’s pre-Games training camp, which left her with a sore knee.
“I had a bad fall in training camp, so I was really iffy about my knee,” Amusan disclosed, adding that she simply wanted to finish the race despite the discomfort.
She also stressed that she was not looking for excuses, expressing gratitude for finishing on the podium despite the setback.
The bronze medal adds another significant achievement to Amusan’s decorated career and contributes to Team Nigeria’s growing medal haul in Glasgow. While she narrowly missed out on a third consecutive Commonwealth title, her determination to compete through injury earned praise from fans and fellow athletes alike.
Medical treatment is now expected to be the priority for the Nigerian hurdler as she looks ahead to the remainder of the athletics season.
