At least 30 people, including women and children, have been killed after suspected gunmen attacked Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in one of the latest deadly assaults to hit Southern Kaduna. The attack occurred late on Sunday, July 26, with residents saying the assailants stormed the community while many families were asleep.
Community leaders said the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, set homes ablaze and left widespread destruction before fleeing. Local officials confirmed that 30 bodies have so far been recovered, while several other residents sustained injuries, raising fears that the death toll could increase.
Among those reported killed were Tabawa Monday, Enock Balla, Geoffrey Monday, Maria Pius, Joy Ali, Deborah Emmanuel and several other residents. Survivors also reported that homes and shops were destroyed during the attack, including the residence of Hosea Garba, leaving many families displaced.
Speaking after the incident, community representatives described the attack as one of the deadliest the village has experienced in recent years. They appealed to the federal and Kaduna State governments to urgently deploy additional security personnel and improve access roads to the area, arguing that poor infrastructure delayed emergency response efforts.
Residents suspect the attackers were armed militants linked to the region’s long-running insecurity, although authorities have yet to officially identify those responsible. As of Monday afternoon, the Kaduna State Police Command had not released a formal statement on the attack.
The latest killings add to growing concerns over persistent violence in Southern Kaduna, where farming communities have repeatedly come under attack. Security analysts warn that recurring assaults continue to deepen the humanitarian crisis, forcing families to flee their homes while increasing calls for stronger security measures across the region.
