Mourinho Believes Vinicius, Mbappé and Bellingham Can Finally Work Together at Real Madrid

For the past two seasons, Real Madrid have had a problem most clubs would love to have: too many world-class attackers.

Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham are three of the biggest stars in world football, yet getting all three to consistently play at their best in the same Real Madrid team has proved difficult. Now, new manager José Mourinho believes he can solve the puzzle.

Speaking ahead of Real Madrid’s LaLiga opener against Espanyol, Mourinho admitted that fitting the trio together will be tactically difficult, but rejected the idea that their positions are incompatible.

“They don’t play in incompatible positions,” Mourinho said. “We will have a great season with them.”

The Problem Mourinho Has Inherited

The issue is not a lack of attacking quality. It is how to make three players accustomed to being major parts of their teams function as one unit.

Vinicius has traditionally been most dangerous when starting from the left. Mbappé also prefers attacking from the left, although he has increasingly played through the middle. Bellingham is more naturally a midfielder but has been used in advanced positions because of his ability to score and create chances.

Previous Real Madrid coaches struggled to find the right balance between attacking freedom and defensive responsibility when all three played together. The club have now gone through Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa during a difficult period without major silverware.

Mourinho therefore knows that simply putting three superstars on the pitch is not enough.

Mourinho Wants All Three Comfortable

Interestingly, Mourinho is not talking about sacrificing one player for another. Instead, he pointed to the work done by other managers with the same players.

“Ancelotti has found a set-up with Brazil perfect for Vini, Deschamps has found one with France perfect for Kylian, Tuchel one perfect for Jude,” he said.

His challenge is to find a system that gives all three similar freedom at club level. That could require the players to adjust their positions depending on the phase of the game. It could also mean greater defensive work from the forwards and more movement between the lines.

Mourinho has already stressed that Real Madrid’s stars must contribute to the collective effort rather than expect the team to be built entirely around individual preferences.

Why This Could Decide Real Madrid’s Season

The Vinicius Mbappé Bellingham combination could become the defining feature of Mourinho’s first season back at Real Madrid.

Madrid have enormous attacking talent, but Barcelona have won back-to-back LaLiga titles, leaving Mourinho with little room for another season of experimentation.

If he gets the balance right, Madrid could have an attack capable of overwhelming almost any opponent.

But if the same positional problems return, the pressure will quickly fall on the manager. Mourinho appears confident that the answer is already within the squad. The next step is proving it on the pitch.
