JAMB WAEC Verification Fee: O’Level Result Verification Now Costs ₦4,000 Once

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a ₦4,000 one-off fee for O’Level result verification, ending the repeated payments candidates often face during the admission process.

The bigger change, however, is not simply the lower cost. It is the decision to make one verified result available to the institution where a candidate is seeking admission, potentially removing one of the frustrating extra steps in JAMB admission 2026.

How the New ₦4,000 WAEC Verification Fee Works

Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will verify their WAEC or WASSCE O’Level result once through JAMB’s Verification Service platform.

After the verification is completed, WAEC will allow JAMB to share the outcome with the relevant tertiary institution. This means candidates should not have to verify the same result again simply because another institution needs to check it.

The ₦4,000 payment must be made through the specified JAMB platform, not directly to the university or other institution. Tertiary institutions have also been directed not to demand another verification fee for the same result.

Why This Matters to Nigerian Admission Seekers

For students, the policy could mean more than saving money. Repeated O’Level result verification has also meant extra trips to schools, JAMB-approved CBT centres and other offices. JAMB and WAEC said the new system is designed to reduce both the financial and logistical burden on candidates. The verification can also be initiated from home or another internet-enabled location.

The change also creates a clearer admission process. Once a candidate has successfully completed WASSCE result verification, the verified outcome should follow the candidate to the institution rather than requiring another round of payment and processing.

What Candidates Should Watch Out For

The biggest test will now be enforcement. If institutions continue asking candidates to pay additional verification fees, students may still face the same problem the new policy is meant to solve.

Candidates should therefore keep evidence of their ₦4,000 payment and completed verification. They should also use only the designated JAMB platform and avoid paying individuals or institutions claiming to offer a separate verification service.

The move marks an important attempt by JAMB and WAEC to make the admission process less expensive and less stressful for Nigerian students.
