Peter Obi Proposes Dual Transmission System for 2027 Election Results

peter obi proposes dual transmission system

Peter Obi says his NDC 2027 election strategy will rely on independent monitoring and a dual system for transmitting polling-unit results, a move he says is designed to prevent a repeat of the problems that followed Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.

The NDC presidential candidate wants results transmitted simultaneously to INEC’s IReV portal and the party’s own situation room. The aim, according to Obi, is to ensure his party has its own record of results and can compare it with the official figures.

Obi Says He Will Not Rely Only on INEC

The proposal reflects the distrust that followed the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, which Obi challenged in court alongside the Labour Party. The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal later dismissed the petitions challenging the result.

Obi now says his campaign will take a different approach in 2027. “In 2023 we took things for granted. We believed INEC. We believed what they said they would do.”

He added: “This time, we will only trust them by doing the right thing ourselves.”

Obi also accused INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu of working for the opposition in 2023, saying he had proof to support the claim. The allegation has not been independently established, and Obi’s statement should be understood as his political accusation.

Why Dual Transmission Matters

The Peter Obi dual transmission of election results proposal is significant because it moves his campaign’s focus from simply trusting the electoral system to independently documenting what happens at polling units.

The NDC’s situation room would create a separate database that could be compared with results uploaded to IReV. That could give the party a stronger evidentiary trail if it believes official results do not match what was recorded at polling units.

However, the system would still need clear rules for verification, security and resolving differences between the two records.

Benue Convoy Incident Raises Tensions

The proposal comes as Peter Obi’s Benue convoy incident adds to the political tension surrounding his 2027 activities.

Obi said his convoy was blocked by youths during a visit to Yelwata in Benue State and blamed an aide of Governor Hyacinth Alia. The allegation has been disputed, while reports say police arrested suspects in connection with the incident.

The incident matters beyond the immediate confrontation because it shows how campaign activity could become more politically charged as the 2027 election approaches.

For Obi, the message is increasingly clear: his campaign does not want to leave either the election rbesults or political activity on the ground entirely to institutions it does not fully trust.
