Nigerian interior designer Ehi Ogbebor has addressed the long-running public interest in her relationship with Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, saying she has no regrets about the relationship despite knowing he was married at the time.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ogbebor described MC Oluomo as one of her closest friends and confirmed that he was the only married man she had dated.
“MC Oluomo is one of my best friends. Ayinde, as I call him, that’s the only man I would say I did date him as a married man, but he’s Muslim.” She then explained why she did not view the relationship in the same way many critics did.
“Even bus conductors have four wives as Muslims.”
Her comments have reopened an old debate about relationships involving married men, particularly in situations where religion, culture and personal choices are used to explain or defend those relationships.
Ogbebor Says She Does Not Target Married Men
One of the main points Ogbebor wanted to challenge was the public perception that she deliberately pursues married men. She rejected that description and said she has spent years being judged over her personal life.
Ogbebor has been married twice, with both marriages ending. During the interview, she also spoke about serious difficulties she experienced in one of those marriages, including domestic violence. That history gives a different context to her comments.
Rather than presenting herself as someone who has deliberately built a lifestyle around married men, she appears to be arguing that her relationships should be judged individually rather than through a label attached to her.
The MC Oluomo Relationship Was Never Really Private
The relationship attracted public attention years ago after Ogbebor shared pictures and affectionate messages involving MC Oluomo. Their relationship later became a major topic of Nigerian celebrity gossip, with reports also linking him to multiple marriages.
Ogbebor has now decided to address the issue directly instead of allowing the public narrative to speak for her. That may be one reason her comments are generating so much reaction.
She is not asking Nigerians to agree with her choices. Instead, she appears to be saying that she has chosen to live according to what makes her happy.
Where the Controversy Really Lies
The most debated part of her explanation is likely to be the reference to Islam and polygamy.
While Islamic law permits a Muslim man to have multiple wives under certain conditions, that does not automatically settle questions about every relationship involving a married Muslim man. Whether a particular relationship is acceptable depends on circumstances that cannot simply be determined by a person’s religion.
That distinction is likely to keep the debate going. For Ogbebor, however, the message is clear: she does not intend to allow public criticism to dictate her personal choices.
Her latest interview therefore does more than confirm an old relationship. It shows a celebrity deliberately taking control of a story that has followed her for years, while forcing Nigerians to debate where personal freedom ends and responsibility to existing relationships begins.
