African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has intensified his criticism of what he describes as the growing criminalisation of online expression, celebrating the release of a TikToker accused of circulating an AI-generated audio impersonating President Bola Tinubu while offering legal support to embattled content creator DJ Chicken.
According to Sowore, Ifechukwu Dennis, who was arrested in Benin City in June over an AI-generated voice note falsely attributed to President Tinubu, has regained his freedom after fresh evidence reportedly showed he was not the creator of the deepfake but had merely reshared content from another account. Sowore argued that the prosecution was based on flawed investigations and said the case reflected a worrying trend in the treatment of young Nigerians online.
Sowore has also pledged to assist DJ Chicken, who is currently facing charges over alleged threats against Seyi Tinubu. Calling the charges “burdensome,” he urged the entertainer’s family to contact him, insisting that DJ Chicken “does not deserve to spend a day behind bars” and that young Nigerians need justice and guidance rather than persecution. DJ Chicken remains on bail after pleading not guilty to charges bordering on alleged threats, breach of peace and cybercrime.
