Nigerian troops under Operation HADIN KAI have neutralized an alleged ISWAP cameraman during a failed terrorist attack in Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, recovering a Sony camcorder containing what the military described as valuable operational and propaganda footage.
According to the military, the recovered recordings provided fresh intelligence into ISWAP’s internal operations, logistics and command structure. Preliminary forensic analysis reportedly identified several senior ISWAP commanders and pointed to the involvement of foreign facilitators, including individuals believed to be providing specialist training and medical support to the terrorist group.
The operation followed an attempted infiltration by suspected ISWAP fighters, who were met with heavy resistance from troops. The terrorists suffered significant casualties and retreated, leaving behind weapons, ammunition, military uniforms and other combat equipment alongside the camcorder. The military said the intelligence recovered could prove crucial in disrupting future terrorist operations in the North-East.
Military authorities described the recovery as a significant intelligence breakthrough, noting that the footage is being analysed to support ongoing counterterrorism operations and expose the group’s operational network. Security forces have pledged to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups operating across the Lake Chad region.
