Premier League club Brentford have promoted Nigerian defender Benjamin Fredrick to their first-team squad ahead of the 2026/27 season and rewarded him with a new long-term contract running until 2030, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further year.
The 21-year-old center-back has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining Brentford’s B team, impressing coaches with his performances and development. Head coach Keith Andrews said the club believes Fredrick has significant potential and is ready to continue his growth within the senior squad after linking up with the first team for pre-season.
Fredrick’s journey began at Simoiben Football Academy in Kaduna before spells with ABS and Nasarawa United in Nigeria. After joining Brentford’s academy setup, he established himself as one of the club’s brightest prospects, winning the Players’ Player of the Year award and helping the B team enjoy an outstanding campaign. He also gained valuable senior experience during a loan spell in Belgium before returning to west London.
On the international stage, Fredrick has already broken into Nigeria’s Super Eagles, earning six senior caps since his debut in 2025, including featuring in the Unity Cup triumph. Speaking after signing his new contract, the defender described the moment as a proud milestone for himself and his family, adding that his immediate goal is to make his Premier League debut and continue learning every day.
The promotion marks another significant achievement for one of Nigeria’s most promising young defenders as he prepares to compete for first-team opportunities in England’s top flight.
