The sustained campaign follows a series of attacks on American forces and commercial shipping routes in the region, with U.S. officials maintaining that the strikes are aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities and protecting regional security.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed a strong response after the deaths of American service members during the conflict. The White House confirmed Trump attended the dignified transfer of four U.S. troops killed in the Middle East, while the Pentagon says the conflict has claimed the lives of 18 American service members since fighting intensified.
Iran has condemned the continued bombardment and warned that any further escalation could trigger additional attacks on U.S. interests and allied military installations in the region.
