A 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command after allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death during a domestic dispute over food in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
Police say the suspect confessed to attacking his wife in anger after she allegedly refused to prepare a meal, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution.
Beyond the immediate tragedy, the case has drawn attention for another disturbing detail: the couple had reportedly been married for six years and already had two children—a boy and a girl.
That means the victim was married at around 14 years old and became a mother while still in her teens, highlighting broader concerns about child marriage and the heightened vulnerability of young girls to domestic abuse.
Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police Shettima Jauro Mohammed condemned the killing, stressing that no disagreement can justify violence or the loss of a human life. He urged couples to resolve conflicts through dialogue rather than resorting to abuse. The incident has reignited conversations about domestic violence, child marriage and the need for stronger protection of women and girls in Nigeria.
