Spain booked their place in the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 2-1 win over Belgium at the Los Angeles Stadium Friday evening.
The victory means that the European champions are unbeaten in 36 international matches.
Fabian Ruiz scored the first goal for _Los Rojas_with half an hour played.
Belgium restored parity four minutes before the half time break through Charles De Ketelaere.
The game seemed headed for extra time before Arsenal star Mikel Merino who was a second half substitute to pop up and score the winner.
Merino profited from a goalkeeping gaffe committed by Senne Lammens who spilled the ball when he could have smothered it.
Spain will face France in the semi finals on Tuesday night.
