Barcelona extends Hamza Abdelkarim contract to 2030, moving quickly to secure the future of the Egyptian striker after just months of his breakthrough at the club.
Abdelkarim originally joined Barcelona from Al Ahly on loan in February 2026. After impressing with the U19 side and during preseason, Barcelona made the move permanent in June and handed him a contract until 2029. The club has now decided that another year is not enough for one of its most promising young forwards.
From Youth Prospect to First-Team Player
The Hamza Abdelkarim Barcelona renewal reflects how quickly his status has changed. After joining the club, Abdelkarim scored six goals in nine league appearances for the U19A side, including a hat-trick in a 9-0 win over Montecarlo. He then became Barcelona’s top scorer in preseason with four goals.
Those performances earned him a place around Hansi Flick’s first-team squad. On August 31, he made his competitive debut against Rayo Vallecano, becoming the first Egyptian to play for Barcelona and only the third Egyptian to appear in La Liga.
Barcelona Raises the Protection Around Him
The new deal is also about protecting Barcelona’s investment. Reports say the Hamza Abdelkarim release clause will rise to €150 million, compared with the €15 million figure attached to his current deal. The sharp increase sends a clear message that Barcelona does not want another club to easily take advantage of his rapid development.
The club has used similar moves with other young players as it tries to build a squad around developing talent rather than relying only on expensive signings.
What Comes Next for Abdelkarim?
The biggest challenge now is turning potential into regular senior football. Abdelkarim has already shown that he can score at youth level and compete for a place around the first team. He also arrived at Barcelona after representing Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, despite having only recently broken into senior football.
The Egyptian striker’s Barcelona future will now depend on how quickly he adapts to the demands of La Liga and how much playing time Flick gives him.
For Barcelona, however, the decision is clear. The club sees enough in the 18-year-old to make a long-term commitment before his market value potentially rises much further.
