Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a major move for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães, with negotiations over a deal worth more than £70 million gathering pace.

Earlier reports indicated that Guimarães has made clear his desire to move to north London, while Newcastle have been reluctant to lose their captain and have valued him at around £80 million or more.
The situation has accelerated amid major upheaval at Newcastle. Manager Eddie Howe left the club on Thursday, ending his nearly five-year spell in charge. His departure followed growing tensions over the club’s transfer strategy and the sale of important players.
