Israel has reportedly warned the United States about fresh intelligence suggesting that Iran may be preparing a new plot to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran amid the fragile Middle East security situation.
According to reports first published by The Wall Street Journal, Israeli intelligence shared information with U.S. officials indicating that individuals linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) could be involved in planning an attack on Trump. U.S. officials are still assessing the intelligence and have not publicly confirmed the alleged plot.
The reported threat is tied to Iran’s long-standing vows of retaliation following the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed senior Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani. Since then, Iranian officials and supporters have repeatedly issued threats against Trump, although Tehran has consistently denied involvement in any assassination plots targeting U.S. officials.
Trump acknowledged that threats against him remain a concern and responded with a stern warning, saying the United States would respond with overwhelming force if Iran attempted to carry out such an attack. Reports also indicate that additional security precautions have been taken around the president, including adjustments to his travel arrangements during recent international engagements.
The latest intelligence comes as U.S.-Iran relations remain highly strained following renewed military confrontations around the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts caution that while the Israeli warning is being treated seriously, the intelligence has not been independently verified, and investigations by U.S. agencies are ongoing.
