According to multiple reports, James communicated his decision to Lakers president Rob Pelinka through his longtime agent Rich Paul, allowing the team to free up nearly $50 million in salary cap space ahead of free agency. The decision was reportedly made out of respect for the organization, giving the Lakers flexibility to reshape their roster after eight memorable seasons together.
LeBron leaves behind one of the most successful chapters in Lakers history. Since arriving in 2018, he led the franchise to the 2020 NBA championship inside the Orlando bubble, became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, earned eight All-Star selections as a Laker, and made history by sharing the court with his son Bronny James, becoming the league’s first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game.
