Former Edo State governor and APC senator Adams Oshiomhole has criticised the business model of opposition figure Peter Obi, describing him as a “trader” whose activities allegedly “export jobs and import unemployment” into Nigeria. Speaking during an interview on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, Oshiomhole argued that Obi’s import-based retail businesses do not contribute to long-term industrial development or job creation.
Oshiomhole contrasted traders with manufacturers and long-term investors, saying the latter create sustainable employment by building factories and investing in production. He also questioned Obi’s suitability for the presidency, claiming Nigeria needs leaders focused on long-term economic planning rather than short-term commercial gains.
The remarks came days after Obi renewed his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in a televised interview, adding another chapter to the growing political exchanges ahead of the 2027 general elections. Supporters of the former Anambra governor responded online by resurfacing an old video of Oshiomhole aboard a private jet, accusing him of hypocrisy and attempting to divert attention from policy issues.
