The Federal Government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway, describing the move as recognition of President Bola Tinubu’s long-standing vision for one of Nigeria’s biggest infrastructure projects. The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during a media briefing in Abuja.
Umahi said the decision was taken by the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Works after consultations with senior officials. According to him, Tinubu first conceived the idea of the coastal highway about 27 years ago while serving as Governor of Lagos State and has now overseen its implementation as President.
“That highway is named President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway… We decided to name it after him because of his dream for it,” Umahi said.
The highway, which stretches about 750 kilometres, is one of the Tinubu administration’s flagship infrastructure projects. It is expected to connect several coastal states from Lagos to Cross River, improve transportation, boost trade, stimulate tourism and create thousands of jobs. Despite facing criticism over its cost and route alignment, the Federal Government insists the project is a strategic investment that will transform Nigeria’s coastal economy.
