Babcock University has publicly distanced itself from a certificate shared by Nigerian streamer and comedian Carter Efe, declaring the document fake, unauthorized, and not issued by the institution. The clarification comes after the content creator posted what he described as proof that he graduated with a “First Class Upper” in Biochemistry, reigniting online debates sparked by the viral “Olodo Uprising” trend.
In a public notice released on June 29, the university said it had uncovered forged academic documents being circulated in its name, including a purported “Honorary Certificate” allegedly awarded to Oderhohwo Joseph Efe by a so-called “Babcock University Biochemistry Computer Club.”
The institution stressed that it does not issue honorary certificates for undergraduate academic performance and that such recognition is granted only through official degree certificates and transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar.
Babcock also pointed out that the academic classification “First Class Upper” does not exist in its grading system. According to the university, the correct classification is First Class Honours, making the wording on the circulating certificate another clear indication that the document is fraudulent.
The university urged employers, government agencies, educational institutions and members of the public to disregard the document and verify any academic credentials directly through its Registrar’s Office. It further warned that anyone involved in producing, circulating or using forged certificates could face civil and criminal prosecution under applicable laws.
Carter Efe, who had earlier posted the certificate with the caption “Take am play,” later reposted the university’s statement without offering further clarification.
