A long-running dispute over an allegedly missing twin in Abuja has resurfaced after social media activist VeryDarkMan shared a video drawing renewed attention to the family’s claims against a medical doctor and his maternity clinic.
The case dates back to 2022, when Mrs Eunice Bright-Ekwok said she received scans indicating that she was expecting twins while receiving antenatal care at Divine Rain Maternity Clinic in Abuja. She later underwent a Caesarean section and was presented with only one baby. According to her account, hospital staff told her that the second child had died and had “scattered” during delivery, but she said she was never shown the baby’s remains.
Her suspicions intensified months later when she encountered the doctor’s wife at another hospital carrying a baby she believed closely resembled her own surviving child. She said the children appeared to have similar facial features, legs and natural dreadlocks. The family subsequently demanded a DNA test to establish whether the child was biologically related to them.
The dispute has since involved police and legal proceedings. Earlier reports said the family had been detained and accused of attempting to take another person’s child, while the doctor denied the allegations.
A lawyer representing the family said DNA testing had been pursued, but one laboratory allegedly failed to release results while another test had yet to be conducted. The accused doctor also reportedly filed a defamation case against Mrs Bright-Ekwok.
The renewed attention from VeryDarkMan comes amid wider concern over alleged baby trafficking and irregular adoption practices in Nigeria.
