Marcus Rashford has officially said goodbye to Barcelona after completing his season-long loan spell at the Spanish club, with the England forward now set to return to Manchester United.
Rashford joined Barcelona on loan for the 2025/26 season from United, with the agreement including an option for the Catalan club to make the transfer permanent. Barcelona ultimately decided against activating the purchase option, meaning the 28-year-old remains a Manchester United player.
Rashford took to social media to reflect on his time in Spain, thanking Barcelona for making his spell at the club a memorable one. He wrote:
“I’m very grateful to everyone at Barcelona for making my time here such a positive and memorable experience. I’ve enjoyed every moment and will take many special memories with me.”
He also wished the club and its supporters success for the season ahead.
His departure brings an end to a season in which Rashford rebuilt some of his reputation following a difficult period at Manchester United. He had previously spent part of the campaign on loan at Aston Villa before moving to Barcelona, and his performances in Spain helped revive speculation that a permanent move could eventually be possible.
However, Barcelona’s decision leaves United facing an important question over Rashford’s future. With his reported wages of around £325,000 a week, finding a club willing to take on his contract could prove difficult. Recent reports have linked him with other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, while his return to United also raises the possibility of him working under new manager Michael Carrick.
For now, Rashford is heading back to Manchester, leaving United with a potentially valuable but complicated decision over one of the academy’s biggest graduates.
