arsenal chelsea 2-1

Arsenal came from a goal down to beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates on Sunday evening to continue the recent dominance of Mikel Arteta’s side over Chelsea. Morgan Rogers whom Arsenal showed interest in signing before he ultimately chose Chelsea got the away side in front after just 77 seconds.

Ricardo Calafiori saw his goal chalked off as Ezri Konsa was in an offside position. Kai Havertz and Martin Ordegaard scored the Gunners’ two goals in the game to secure their third win in three games.

Newslegend NG here looks at the Five Talking Points from the game.

1. Chelsea Are Early Starters

Chelsea scored very early on Sunday which is similar to how they began their 2026/2027 campaign.

Xavi Alonso’s men scored within 32 seconds when they played against Fulham in Week 1. They also took an early lead last weekend against Brighton and Hoves Albion.

2. Kai Havertz’s Display

Former Chelsea forward Kai Havertz played one of his best games in an Arsenal shirt on Sunday.

The range striker brought his teammates into play and his deft touches and feints opened up spaces for the likes of Martin Ordegaard who scored the Gunners’ second goal.

3. London is Red

Chelsea became a phenomenon and successful on the field as well as the boardroom with the acquisition of the club by for owner Roman Abrahamovic.

But in recent games, the meetings between both sides have favoured the Gunners. The reigning Premier League champions are no longer the soft size that panicked when they face Chelsea especially when the club was managed by Jose Mourinho.

4. Morgan Rogers’ Rage

Arsenal desperately wanted to sign Morgan Rogers but he ended up signing a £117m deal with Chelsea from Aston Villa.

There was a point in the game where the forward had a clash with fellow England international Declan Rice. Rogers remonstrated over a supposed pull-back from Rice. But it was Rogers that was booked for his reaction.

The player seems to be keen to prove that he made the right choice by signing for Chelsea at the expense of Arsenal. He played with the handbrake off after his booking and that slightly affected how effective Chelsea attack were afterwards.

5. Arsenal Saw Off the Game

The Gunners were disciplined in possession towards the end of the game by retaining the ball very well

Although there was a moment of goalkeeping gaffe that saw David Raya nearly five away the ball, Arsenal never allowed Chelsea to counter in the closing stages of the game.

Meanwhile David Raya made one elastic save to keep away a thunderous shot from Estevao in the second half. The save had a big impact in the final outcome of the London derby.
