A fragile diplomatic breakthrough between the United States and Iran has failed to immediately calm tensions along the Lebanon border, where Israeli forces and Hezbollah-linked fighters continue to exchange fire. The renewed violence has raised fears that the wider regional conflict could continue despite efforts to reduce hostilities.
The Israeli military confirmed that its forces remain operating inside southern Lebanon, with reports indicating troops are positioned as far as 10 kilometers beyond the border. Israel says its operations are aimed at preventing attacks from Hezbollah and protecting communities in northern Israel.
The latest clashes have caused fresh casualties. Israeli authorities reported the deaths of soldiers during fighting in southern Lebanon, while Lebanese officials have also reported deaths and injuries linked to Israeli strikes. The violence has intensified pressure on both sides of a recently discussed ceasefire framework.
The situation has complicated broader diplomatic efforts following the US-backed understanding between Washington and Tehran, which was expected to reduce regional tensions. Instead, fighting around southern Lebanon has continued, with Hezbollah and Israel trading accusations over responsibility for the escalation.
Lebanese communities near the border remain among the worst affected, with many residents unable to return home because of continued bombardments and security concerns. Humanitarian groups have warned that repeated attacks are worsening displacement and damaging already fragile infrastructure.
