Arsenal have finally completed their long pursuit of Igor Tyjon, bringing the highly rated Blackburn Rovers youngster to North London in a deal worth around £1 million upfront, with another £2 million available in add-ons.
But with the 18-year-old expected to begin with Arsenal’s U21 side rather than immediately join Mikel Arteta’s first team, the obvious question is: who exactly is Igor Tyjon, and why have Arsenal been so determined to sign him?
Who Is Igor Tyjon?
Igor Tyjon is an 18-year-old forward born in Southport, England. He started his youth career at Rochdale before joining Blackburn Rovers in July 2023.
He quickly attracted attention at Blackburn, making his U21 debut at just 15. He was also brought into the senior squad while still a teenager before making his professional debut against Bristol City in September 2024.
Tyjon mainly plays as a striker, although he can also operate in wider attacking positions. That flexibility is one reason he has attracted interest from several major clubs.
Igor Tyjon’s Stats at Blackburn
The Igor Tyjon stats show why Arsenal have continued to monitor him.
During the 2025/26 Premier League 2 campaign, Tyjon recorded four goals and two assists in 822 minutes, with an average FotMob rating of 7.47.
Other reports have credited him with seven goals and two assists in 21 appearances across Blackburn’s youth teams during the 2025/26 season. The different totals reflect different competition and appearance counts, but both point to the same thing: Tyjon was productive despite not always receiving consistent minutes.
His senior numbers are understandably much smaller. Tyjon has made just a handful of first-team appearances for Blackburn, meaning Arsenal are signing him based largely on his potential rather than an established senior record.
His England Record Is Even More Interesting
Tyjon has also progressed through the England youth system. He represented England at U16, U17 and U18 level and was part of England’s squad at the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup. For the England U18s, he scored three goals in his first five appearances.
His international career could have looked different. Tyjon also represented Poland at U16 level, making him eligible to play for the country because of his Polish family background. He ultimately continued with England.
Why Did Arsenal Want Him?
The Igor Tyjon story with Arsenal has been developing for months. Arsenal reportedly made several attempts to sign him, including bids that Blackburn rejected. The teenager also declined the opportunity to sign a professional contract with Blackburn, with the club extending his scholarship arrangement while negotiations over his future continued.
That persistence suggests Arsenal see something beyond his current statistics. Tyjon is still developing physically and tactically, and his senior experience is limited. But his youth international record, goal contributions and ability to play across the attack make him an interesting long-term project.
What Happens Next?
Tyjon is not expected to immediately become Arsenal’s next first-choice striker. Instead, the Arsenal new signing is expected to join the U21s, where he can continue developing while getting opportunities to train around the senior squad.
That may actually be the best route for him. Arsenal can give Tyjon time to adjust to a new club and a much higher level of competition without placing unrealistic expectations on an 18-year-old.
For now, his numbers are promising rather than spectacular. His senior career is only beginning. But Arsenal have clearly seen enough to believe Igor Tyjon could become much more than a promising academy player.
