Inter Milan are edging closer to signing Cristian Romero from Tottenham after making significant progress in talks with the Premier League club. Reports indicate the two sides have reached the framework of an agreement worth around €40 million, although the deal is not yet complete.
The remaining hurdle is Romero’s personal terms. The Argentina international is reportedly seeking a salary package of around €6.5 million per year plus bonuses, while he also remains interested in a move to Barcelona, his preferred destination. However, the Spanish champions would first need to free up space in their squad and finances before making a formal approach.
Inter are keen to reinforce their defence despite already strengthening at the back this summer, viewing Romero as a key addition thanks to his experience, aggressive defending and leadership qualities. Tottenham, meanwhile, are open to selling if their valuation is met.
With negotiations continuing, Inter remain favourites to land the 28-year-old, although Barcelona’s interest means the transfer saga is not over just yet.
