Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in Washington today to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, where he is expected to press for additional Patriot air defense interceptors and stronger military support as Russia intensifies its missile and drone attacks.
The visit comes shortly after Zelenskyy secured a defense cooperation agreement with newly appointed UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham to jointly develop drones and strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
The talks in Washington are expected to focus on expanding Ukraine’s air defence network, including the supply and potential co-production of Patriot missile interceptors, which Kyiv says remain its top military priority.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree increasing the authorized strength of Russia’s armed forces by 25,000 personnel, bringing the total number of service members to more than 1.53 million. The move comes as Moscow continues its military campaign in Ukraine despite renewed diplomatic efforts.
The developments underscore how both Ukraine and Russia are continuing to strengthen their military positions even as international leaders pursue diplomatic solutions to the conflict.
