Liverpool could have a clearer path to Lamine Camara after Chelsea reportedly ended their interest in the Monaco midfielder following the collapse of his proposed £47 million move to Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old Senegal international was close to joining Chelsea on deadline day before Monaco pulled out of the agreement. Camara had already completed his medical, but the transfer collapsed shortly before the summer window closed. He has since remained at Monaco and said he had “turned the page” to focus on the season.
Now, Liverpool’s interest in Lamine Camara is back in focus ahead of the January transfer window.
Why Liverpool Want Lamine Camara
Liverpool have reportedly been monitoring Camara because of what he could add to their midfield. The Senegalese midfielder is known for his defensive work, physical presence and ability to carry the ball forward.
Recent reports have linked Liverpool with a potential January move, with the club believed to have already shown interest in the player and his representatives.
The timing could also make sense for Liverpool. With concerns about midfield depth, adding a player who can recover possession and progress the ball could give manager Andoni Iraola another option during the second half of the season.
Chelsea’s Exit Changes the Transfer Picture
Chelsea had been one of the strongest contenders for Camara after selling Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for a reported £125 million. The Blues agreed a deal worth around £47 million for Camara, but Monaco eventually stopped the transfer.
Chelsea are now reportedly looking at Alex Scott and Adam Wharton instead of returning for Camara. That could leave Liverpool facing fewer direct competitors if they decide to make a move.
However, Monaco are unlikely to simply let Camara go cheaply. Reports have suggested the French club could seek a significantly higher fee after rejecting Chelsea’s previous agreement.
Could Liverpool Move in January?
A January transfer would depend on several factors, including Liverpool’s midfield needs, Monaco’s asking price and whether Camara remains open to leaving during the season.
Camara himself has indicated that he is focused on Monaco for now, although he acknowledged that another opportunity could come in the future.
For Liverpool, Chelsea’s withdrawal removes one complication, but it does not guarantee a deal. The next major development could be whether the Reds turn their reported interest into a formal offer when the January transfer window opens.
