The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has intercepted 4,143.5 kilograms of cannabis indica with a Duty Paid Value of approximately ₦26.5 billion, concealed inside a container carrying imported used vehicles at the Apapa Port in Lagos. The seizure was made during a joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following credible intelligence.
According to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, officers subjected 40-foot container FANU1933352 to a detailed examination on July 10, uncovering 162 bags containing 8,287 parcels of cannabis, each weighing 500 grams.
The container also held three vehicles: a 2015 Nissan Micra, a 2019 Toyota Corolla S, and a 2015 Toyota Corolla. Four bags of cannabis were hidden inside the Nissan Micra, while the remaining 158 bags were concealed beneath and between the vehicles.
Oshoba described the interception as a major victory against transnational drug trafficking and reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on the importation of prohibited items through Nigerian ports. He added that the container has been seized in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, while investigations continue to identify those behind the shipment.
