Social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has ignited fresh controversy after criticizing Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), over the cleric’s recent comments defending President Bola Tinubu on the issue of insecurity. The video has quickly gone viral, fueling heated discussions across social media.

The backlash followed Pastor Adeboye’s remarks during a church event, where he urged Nigerians to avoid excessive criticism of President Tinubu over insecurity, saying the President had “done his bit” and noting that Tinubu could not personally fight criminals on the battlefield. The cleric encouraged continued prayers for the nation’s leaders rather than sustained public attacks.

Reacting in a widely shared video, VDM accused the respected cleric of overlooking the economic hardship and insecurity facing ordinary Nigerians. He questioned why influential religious leaders, whom many citizens look up to, were defending the government instead of speaking more forcefully about the country’s challenges. The activist argued that Nigerians expect moral voices to hold leaders accountable while also praying for them.

The exchange has divided public opinion. Supporters of Pastor Adeboye insist his comments were intended to promote peace and national unity rather than shield the government from criticism. Others sided with VDM, arguing that religious leaders have a responsibility to openly address governance failures affecting millions of Nigerians.

Neither Pastor Adeboye nor the RCCG has issued any further response to VDM’s criticism at the time of reporting.
