Funke Akindele has confirmed that work is underway on She Must Be Obeyed Season 2, ending months of uncertainty over whether the Prime Video drama would return.
The filmmaker gave the update while responding to a fan on X who joked about having to wait until age 40 before seeing another season. Akindele replied with laughing emojis and said, “we are working on it.”
The brief response was enough to reignite interest in the series, which premiered in September 2023.
Why Fans Have Been Waiting So Long
She Must Be Obeyed was released as a five-part drama centred on the Nigerian music industry, following Siyanbola Adewale, known as SHE, and the rivalries, ambition and personal conflicts surrounding her career.
The first season featured a large cast including Akindele, Waje, Veeiye, Nancy Isime, Lateef Adedimeji, Akah Nnani, Mike Ezuruonye and Rachael Okonkwo. Akindele also directed the project alongside JJC Skillz.
The long gap between seasons has kept fans guessing about whether the story would continue. Akindele’s response now confirms that the project has not been abandoned, although there is still no announced She Must Be Obeyed Season 2 release date.
Season 2 Could Build on the First Season’s Unfinished Story
The confirmation is particularly interesting because the first season left several aspects of SHE’s story and relationships open for further development.
The series explored fame, competition, betrayal and the pressure surrounding successful music stars. It also touched on issues including alopecia, contracts and the treatment of people working behind major entertainers.
That gives the She Must Be Obeyed Season 2 storyline several possible directions, although Akindele has not revealed any details about the plot.
For now, fans will have to wait for official information about the returning cast, filming schedule and release date.
Funke Akindele Is Entering Another Busy Period
The announcement comes while Akindele is already working on other major projects. Her upcoming film The Four: No One Fights Alone is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 11, 2026, adding another major release to her current run.
Akindele has also spoken this year about her focus on telling Nigerian and African stories and experimenting with different storytelling styles.
For viewers, the biggest takeaway from her latest update is simple: She Must Be Obeyed is coming back, but the wait is not over yet.
There is currently no confirmed premiere date for Season 2, so any claims about a specific release date should be treated cautiously until Akindele or Prime Video makes an official announcement.
