The VeryDarkMan kidney harvesting allegations have moved from social media claims to a police investigation, with four suspects arrested over an alleged kidney harvesting in Nigeria network.
The suspects include two nephrologists linked to Wellington Hospital in Abuja, alongside two alleged recruiters. Police say the case involves vulnerable young people who were allegedly lured into illegal organ removal through false promises and forged documents.
How the Case Came to Light
The investigation began after 22-year-old Samuel Ezekiel reportedly approached VeryDarkMan’s organisation with medical evidence suggesting that his left kidney was missing.
According to police, Samuel was allegedly taken to Wellington Hospital in April by Emmanuel Ode, who is accused of recruiting victims. Police say Ode admitted that Samuel’s kidney was removed and that he was paid $1,250.
VeryDarkMan’s lawyer said the organisation sought further medical checks before pursuing the matter, helping bring the allegation to the attention of law enforcement.
Police Arrest Four Suspects
The Nigeria Police Force later arrested four people during a sting operation in Auta Balifi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
They include Emmanuel Ode, David Idoko, Dr Benjamin Oyime and Dr Daniel Otukpa. The two doctors are nephrologists associated with Wellington Hospital, where police allege at least one of the procedures took place.
Police also allege that the network targeted financially vulnerable young people and used forged NINs, birth certificates, affidavits, age declarations and consent letters to facilitate the procedures. Investigators say more suspects could still be arrested.
The Bigger Concern Behind the Arrests
The most worrying part of the organ harvesting in Abuja investigation is the alleged recruitment system.
Rather than victims simply approaching hospitals to sell organs, police say recruiters actively targeted vulnerable people. One alleged victim reportedly received ₦7 million after a separate kidney removal, suggesting investigators may be dealing with a wider network rather than an isolated incident.
VeryDarkMan’s intervention has therefore become an important part of the story, but the police investigation will determine whether the allegations can be proved in court.
For now, authorities say the operation is continuing and that other people linked to the alleged Wellington Hospital kidney case are being pursued.
