Manchester United have confirmed that academy defender Tyler Fredricson has completed a permanent move to Swiss Super League side Lausanne-Sport, bringing his long association with the club to an end. The 21-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the INEOS-owned Swiss club.
Fredricson joined United’s academy at Under-9 level and progressed through the club’s youth system before breaking into the senior squad. He made his first-team debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in April 2025 and went on to make four senior appearances. He was also part of United’s 2022 FA Youth Cup side and received the Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Year award in 2025.
The move gives Fredricson an opportunity to play regular senior football and continue his development away from Old Trafford. United have reportedly protected their interests in the defender’s future by inserting both a buy-back clause and a high-percentage sell-on clause into the agreement. The transfer fee has not been publicly disclosed.
The decision also fits into the club’s broader approach to managing young players who are unlikely to immediately establish themselves in the first team. With United having younger centre-back options including Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, Fredricson faced a difficult route to regular Premier League football.
Fredricson, a lifelong United supporter from South Manchester, thanked the club’s coaches, teammates, staff and supporters for their role in his development. He also shared an emotional message ahead of his departure: “Once a red, always a red ❤️.”
United similarly wished the defender well, describing his departure as the beginning of a “new adventure” after years of development at Carrington.
