Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, despite already investing around £85 million in midfield reinforcements this summer.
The Red Devils have already completed the signings of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, giving new manager Michael Carrick a fresh-look engine room. However, reports suggest United remain in the market for another defensive midfielder, with Adams emerging as a cost-effective option.
The 27-year-old United States international has impressed with his aggressive pressing, ball-winning ability and leadership whenever fit. However, recurring injury problems during his spell at Bournemouth have raised concerns over his long-term reliability. Bournemouth are believed to value Adams between £25 million and £35 million, a figure United could consider reasonable after their heavy spending earlier in the transfer window.
Adams’ potential arrival has divided Manchester United supporters. Some believe his defensive discipline and work rate would provide valuable competition and balance alongside Kobbie Mainoo, Santos and Tielemans, especially with United preparing for a return to the UEFA Champions League.
Others, however, argue the club should pursue a more high-profile defensive midfielder capable of becoming an undisputed starter. Several fans have questioned whether signing Adams matches United’s ambition after already strengthening other areas of the squad.
