Chelsea have officially unveiled highly rated Portuguese winger Geovany Quenda after completing his long-awaited move from Sporting CP, with the 19-year-old signing an eight-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2034.
The transfer, reportedly worth around £40–42 million (€50 million), was agreed well over a year ago, with both clubs deciding Quenda would remain at Sporting for the 2025/26 season to continue his development. He now arrives in west London after playing a key role in Sporting’s domestic double-winning campaign and establishing himself as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
Quenda leaves Sporting with an impressive résumé for his age. He made 86 senior appearances, scored nine goals, provided 17 assists, became the club’s youngest-ever league goalscorer and earned the Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season award. His versatility, pace and ability to play as both a winger and wing-back made him one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe.
Speaking after completing the move, Quenda expressed his excitement about joining the Blues.
“It feels great to be here. Chelsea is a great team and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge. The club has shown faith in players like me and I am proud to be here. I will work hard every day to help the team win trophies.”
Quenda joins fellow Sporting midfielder Dário Essugo, whose transfer formed part of a combined package worth around €75 million. The pair are among Chelsea’s latest investments in elite young talent as the club continues building for the future under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Chelsea supporters have welcomed the signing with excitement, viewing Quenda as another dynamic attacking option capable of competing alongside players such as Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke.
