2026 FIFA World Cup: Switzerland Edge Past Colombia on Penalties, To Play Argentina

Switzerland earned a quarterfinals place after a 4-3 win on penalties over Colombia at the BC Vancouver Stadium Tuesday night.

Switzerland’s reward is a clash against defending champions Argentina on Sunday at the Kansas City Stadium.

The Switzerland versus Colombia game ended 0-0 in 90 minutes and extra time was required to possibly settle the contest.

However despite the best efforts of both sides, chances were at premium and the lottery of penalty shootout became necessary.

Ruben Vargas converted his spot kick which was the last of all kicks after Davison Sanchez and Murphy Akanji missed for Colombia and Switzerland respectively.

The Switzerland versus Argentina game will lock off at 2 am Nigerian time.
