The decisive moment came in the 14th minute when Jhon Arias tapped home from close range after a pinpoint cross from substitute Luis Suárez, who had been introduced early following an injury to striker Jhon Córdoba. The goal proved enough to send Los Cafeteros into the next round.
Colombia controlled much of the contest despite the sweltering conditions, with captain James Rodríguez orchestrating play while Luis Díaz constantly threatened Ghana’s defence. Díaz thought he had doubled the lead in the second half, but his goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
