Nollywood has gathered to bid farewell to actor and filmmaker Alexx Ekubo, whose death has left colleagues, fans, and the Nigerian entertainment industry in mourning. The 40-year-old actor was laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, following a private battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
Ekubo, known for his roles in popular productions including The Bling Lagosians and Omo Ghetto: The Saga, passed away on May 11, with his family later confirming that he died from complications linked to the illness. His passing triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow entertainers who remembered him for his talent, charm, generosity, and impact on the Nigerian film industry.
The funeral ceremonies began with a wake-keep attended by family members, friends, and several Nollywood stars. Colleagues including IK Ogbonna and Ini Edo joined others in honouring the late actor as mourners reflected on his career and personal legacy.
During the burial activities, the procession moved through Arochukwu, with moments of prayers and remembrance before the final service.
