Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has confirmed that her marriage to Bobby Maris has ended, putting weeks of speculation to rest after the couple unfollowed each other on social media and shared cryptic posts online.
The actress broke her silence through a series of emotional posts on Instagram, revealing that she had reached her breaking point after years in the relationship. Challenging societal expectations placed on women, Ogbodo questioned why women are often criticised for choosing to walk away from unhappy marriages.
She wrote:
“For person to tire for marriage now nah taboo because nah woman? Must it always be man must taya? My tayad is tayad! I am tayad of the Princess wey dey marry me.”
She added:
“8 years of my life isn’t enough yet? Maybe I should give it 20 years or maybe 6 feet under before the crown of thorns can fit me well.”
The confirmation follows days of online speculation after fans noticed that Ogbodo and Bobby Maris had unfollowed each other on Instagram. Reports also emerged of cryptic messages exchanged by both parties, fuelling rumours that their relationship had broken down.
In another message directed at bloggers, the actress urged media platforms to verify stories before publishing them, insisting she had evidence to support her claims.
The couple, who welcomed two children together and held their traditional wedding in January 2023 after years of being together, had often shared affectionate moments publicly. Their relationship was widely admired by fans despite attracting scrutiny because of their age difference.
News of the separation has generated mixed reactions on social media. While many fans expressed sadness over the breakup and wished both parties well, others praised Ogbodo for openly speaking about leaving a marriage that no longer made her happy.
The development marks another high-profile celebrity breakup in Nollywood and has reignited conversations about marriage, gender expectations and personal happiness.
