Marcus Rashford is expected to report for Manchester United’s pre-season training next month after no agreement was reached over a permanent summer transfer, with new manager Michael Carrick keen to assess the forward before deciding his future.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Rashford has informed Manchester United that he will return for pre-season and hold direct talks with Carrick once his World Cup campaign ends. The England international’s release clause has now expired, meaning any club interested in signing him must negotiate directly with United rather than activate a fixed fee.
Despite speculation linking him with clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Rashford has no intention of moving outside Europe’s elite leagues. Romano reports that the 28-year-old would only consider leaving Old Trafford for a top European side, otherwise he is prepared to compete for his place under Carrick. Barcelona’s option to sign him permanently was not activated following his loan spell, leaving him on course for a return to Carrington.
Carrick is understood to be looking forward to working with Rashford again, having coached him during his rise through Manchester United’s first team. While the club remains open to suitable offers later in the transfer window, the immediate plan is for Rashford to rejoin the squad and attempt to impress during pre-season before any final decision is made on his future.
