Serbian striker Dušan Vlahović remains one of the biggest names without a club after becoming a free agent following the expiration of his Juventus contract.
The 26-year-old officially left the Italian giants at the end of June after contract renewal talks collapsed over salary demands. Juventus had offered the forward a reduced wage package as part of the club’s new salary structure, but negotiations failed to produce an agreement, bringing his four-and-a-half-year stay in Turin to an end.
Vlahović joined Juventus from Fiorentina in January 2022 in a deal worth around €80 million and scored consistently during his time in Turin, establishing himself as one of Serie A’s leading strikers. Despite his goalscoring record, his reported wage expectations have complicated negotiations with interested clubs.
Several European sides, including Barcelona, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, have all been linked with the Serbian international in recent weeks. However, no formal agreement has been reached, with clubs reportedly reluctant to match the financial package sought by the player and his representatives.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has maintained that Juventus are not planning a reunion unless Vlahović significantly lowers his salary expectations, making a return to Turin highly unlikely under the current conditions.
The situation has surprised many football fans, given Vlahović’s age and proven record in one of Europe’s top leagues. With pre-season already underway across Europe, attention is now turning to whether one of the continent’s elite clubs will eventually meet his demands or if the striker will be forced to compromise to secure a move.
For now, Vlahović remains available on a free transfer, making him arguably the highest-profile unattached player on the market heading into the new European season.
