Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has claimed he lost $4 million after allegedly purchasing a stolen property in Lagos, leaving him devastated and appealing for public help. The artist, whose real name is Abiola Akinbiyi, shared the emotional revelation on social media, saying the seller disappeared after receiving payment and that he has since engaged a lawyer to investigate the matter.
In an emotional message, Bella said:
“Nigeria, I need your help. I’m not doing okay right now. I spent $4m of my own hard-earned money, only to find out I bought stolen property. And now the seller has disappeared. Please, help me. Someone step in. I’ve got nothing left.”
The singer said the money represented years of hard work and described the incident as one of the darkest moments of his life. While the allegations have sparked widespread sympathy online, questions have also emerged about the transaction, with many calling for greater due diligence in high-value property purchases. As of now, no official police statement or confirmed criminal investigation has been announced publicly, although Bella says legal steps are underway.
The case has also reignited conversations about real estate fraud in Lagos, where disputes involving fake land titles, forged documents and fraudulent property sales remain a recurring concern for buyers and investors.
