Spider-Man’s Biggest Win Isn’t the Box Office: It’s Winning Back Marvel Fans

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is breaking records at the box office, but its biggest victory may be something Marvel Studios has struggled to achieve in recent years: winning fans over again.

The Tom Holland-led blockbuster has raced past ₹130 crore in India within just two days, becoming the fastest Hollywood film to cross the ₹100 crore mark in the country. The film is now on course for a massive opening weekend, with trade analysts projecting collections of ₹250–275 crore in India alone.

Yet the conversation surrounding the film has gone beyond ticket sales.

Fans and critics alike have praised Brand New Day for returning Spider-Man to what made the character beloved in the first place: a grounded, emotional story focused on Peter Parker rather than multiverse spectacle. The film currently holds a 4.2 rating on Letterboxd, making it the highest-rated MCU film and the highest-rated live-action Spider-Man movie on the platform.

That reception could prove just as important as the box office.

Following a mixed run of Marvel releases over the past few years, Brand New Day appears to have restored confidence in the franchise ahead of major projects such as Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Industry analysts in India have already described the film as a title that has helped put Marvel “back in the game” in one of its biggest international markets.

The movie’s strong word-of-mouth has also fueled repeat viewings, with audiences highlighting its emotional storytelling, street-level action and Peter Parker’s personal journey as the biggest reasons for recommending it.

If the momentum continues through the weekend, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could become one of Marvel’s biggest post-Endgame successes—not simply because people showed up on opening day, but because viewers are leaving theaters telling others to watch it.
