The United States has intensified its military campaign against Iran, carrying out a fresh wave of overnight airstrikes that reportedly hit key transport infrastructure, including an airport, railway facilities and several bridges.
The strikes form part of a broader escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran, which has seen both sides exchange attacks for nearly a week.
According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces targeted Iranian military logistics infrastructure, coastal surveillance sites, air defence systems and maritime capabilities around Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, areas considered strategically important because of their proximity to the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media, however, reported that the strikes also damaged civilian transport infrastructure, including bridges, the Bandar Khamir railway station, and Iranshahr Airport. Reuters said it could not independently verify those claims.
The latest escalation comes as Iran continues retaliatory missile and drone attacks on U.S. military facilities across the Gulf region. The conflict has also disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, raising concerns over global energy supplies and pushing oil prices higher.
Analysts warn that further attacks on transport and logistics infrastructure could deepen regional instability and prolong disruptions to international trade.
