A new era has officially begun at Chelsea as Xabi Alonso reported for his first day as the club’s manager, overseeing his maiden training session ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The former Bayer Leverkusen coach arrived at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Thursday after signing a four-year contract earlier this year. Alonso was introduced to staff, completed media duties and quickly got to work on the training pitch, where he directed his first pre-season session with the squad.
Among the players involved were academy graduate Levi Colwill and new signing Geovany Quenda, who recently joined from Sporting CP. Early images from training showed Alonso actively coaching and interacting with the squad as preparations began for the new campaign.
In his first interview as Chelsea manager, Alonso expressed his excitement about the challenge ahead and stressed the importance of building unity within the squad.
