The Netherlands became leaders of Group F in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a dominant 5-1 thumping of Sweden on Saturday evening at the Houston Stadium, reports Newslegend.
The Dutch team and forward Cody Gakpo’s second goal was the 100th of the ongoing 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
Gakpo, who is of Togolese descent, had grabbed his first goal following the opening strikes by Brian Brobbey in the 5th and 17th minutes.
Newcastle United’s Anthony Elanga reduced the deficit with half an hour played but a late sting from West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville made the score somewhat embarrassing for the Swedes.
The top two teams in each of the 12 groups at the World Cup will advance to the last 32. Two of the tournament’s co-hosts, Mexico and the United States, have already booked their place with back-to-back victories.
